Dubas stated, "I am very impressed with the way the boys have come in and performed throughout the weekend. A number of the guys, particularly some of the free agents, have really come in and made a name for themselves both on the ice and in the fitness testing."
When questioned about some specific players, the GM said the following:
Landon Schiller
"Showed a bit of everything. Stood up for himself in the morning scrimmage and his name was all over the score sheet. You can see that Landon has really put the work in to add strength and muscle since we saw him last spring here."
Devin Shell
"Always nice to see a local free agent come in and play some tremendous hockey. Stood out in both scrimmages with his combination of speed and skill. Also a very strong kid, well put together."
Ryan Kirkup
"Ryan showed his experience from playing a season of Jr A on an excellent Whitby team. Ryan really showed a passion for trying to shut down Jared McCann, but is also the leading scorer through 2 games with 5 points. That combination of tenacity, skill, and speed are what we eagerly seeking to see from Greyhound players."
Brandon Halverson
"Brandon has been impressive all weekend. He is a very athletic goaltender, with excellent size and quickness. Possesses all the skills you want to see out of an elite goaltending prospect. Have also been very impressed with how Brandon carries himself off the ice."
Gordie Helmuth
" Plays the game very hard, got under the skin of the opposition in the evening session by combining his work ethic and skill. Plays the game we want to play it here. Took the puck with great vigour right to the net."
Medric Mercier
"Not sure his heart rate ever elevates. Plays a calm and collected game, never panics with the puck under pressure."
Brandon Hughes
"Has played hard, always around the puck, and showed great skill in the morning session en route to scoring 3 goals. Strong kid, tough to knock off the puck."
Cody Milan
"Cody has showed us all weekend the exact type of play that made us want to draft him right from the get go. Good size, lanky frame. Excellent puck skills and plays with grit. Has good speed and will only continue to fill into his frame."
Team Coffey will now take on Team Foote for the final time on the weekend tomorrow morning (Sunday) - 10 a.m. at the John Rhodes Community Centre.
