It'll be an early morning on Thursday for members of the Soo Greyhounds as they depart of their second roadtrip of the OHL season.
With a game later that evening in Windsor (WFCU Centre vs Spitfires, 6:35 p.m. pre-game on Rock 101), the Hounds are scheduled to depart on their AJ Bus Lines charter at 7 a.m.
Three members of the Hounds are not expected to make the trip as RYAN SPROUL, COLIN MILLER and NICK HALAGIAN remain on the sidelines with their respective injuries.
Entering the 4th week of OHL action the Hounds sit with a record of 5 wins and 2 losses, good for 10 points and 1st in the West Division (2nd in the Western Conference). Of note, the Hounds are a perfect 2-0 thus far away from the cozy confines of the Essar Centre.
Thursday Night will mark the 2nd meeting of the year (of six) between the Hounds and Spits. The two teams have already met once this season, back on the opening weekend of regular season play, where Windsor skated away with a one-goal victory (3-2) over the Hounds.
Entering the game, NICK COUSINS (PHI) leads the Hounds offense with 5 goals and 7 assists, good for 12 points. Cousins, who sits 2nd in the early season OHL scoring race has netted goals in 5 of the team's last 6 games.
Meanwhile DARNELL NURSE and ALEX GUDBRANSON, who have shared the top two defensive pairings for the club, lead the team with a very respectable +7 rating.
Goaltender MATT MURRAY has backstopped the Hounds in all seven games played thus far, and has been named one of the "Red Star" three stars of the game on four occasions.
Windsor meanwhile has started off the month of October winless in three games. Goaltender Jaroslav Pavelka has been busy between the pipes facing over 40 shots in 2 of those three games for the Spits.
Then after an off-day on Friday, the Hounds will head into the always difficult surroundings of the Compuware Arena (Plymouth, MI) Saturday Night (7:05 p.m. puck drop, 6:35 p.m. pre-game on Rock 101) against the Plymouth Whalers.
The night will mark the Whalers 5th Annual PINK OUT for Breast Cancer Awareness.
Plymouth GM/Head Coach Mike Velucci is coming off his 400th career victory in the OHL last weekend.
Wednesday Night the Whalers dropped a 4-2 game in Owen Sound and will later travel to London on Friday before hosting the Hounds.
And on Sunday afternoon (2:05 p.m. puck drop, 1:35 p.m. pre-game on Rock 101) it'll be the Hounds second trip this season to the RBC Centre (Sarnia, ON) against the Sting.
Sarnia enters this week on the heels of back-to-back road victories (@SSM, @WSR) and will host the Niagara IceDogs on Saturday Night.
Team Captain Alex Galchenyuk leads the Sting offensively with 4 goals and 5 assists (9 points) in 7 games played. Two of his goals on the season have come on the man advantage.
