A three-game homestand starts tonight for the Hounds. Game time is 7:05 p.m. at the Essar Centre
TONIGHT’S GAME ….. The Hounds and Sting are meeting tonight for the 2nd game in their 8 game regular season series. Entering Week 3 of OHL action the two West Division clubs are separated by 1 point in the standings. Tonight’s game will be the first of 3 straight on home ice for the Hounds while the Sting return to their home ice, the RBC Centre, for a pair of home games on Friday and Saturday Night.
Sarnia defeated the Hounds last Friday Night by a score of 6-3. Brett Thompson had a pair of goals while Nick Cousins had a single in what was the Hounds first regular season loss.
HOUNDS ….. The Hounds enter tonight’s game with a healthy line-up for Head Coach Denny Lambert. With their roster sitting at 24 players, everyone except Brett Findlay is eligible for
action. The Echo Bay, ON native is still 3-4 weeks away from returning to the Hounds lineup after
suffering a broken wrist … Defenceman Brandon Archibald returns to the Hounds line-up after receiving an automatic 2-game suspension for being the “2nd fight during the same stoppage” in last Thursday’s game in Windsor … As of the time of print, it is unknown what overage forward, Dominic DeSando or Jake Carrick will sit out tonight's game … Forwards Brett Thompson (5 goals and 1 assist) and Nick Cousins (4 goals and 1 assist) both enter tonight with consecutive point streaks in tact through the opening 4 games of the season. Vern Cooper leads the Hounds offense with 7 points (7 assists) … The Hounds Penalty Kill is 5th best in the OHL at 86.7% thanks to successfully killing off 26 of 30 short-handed situations. The team’s Power Play is 12th in the league after scoring 4 times on 22 opportunities … The Hounds are 2-0 this early season on home-ice ….. The opposition has opened up the scoring in 4 of the Hounds first 5 games
STING ….. Sarnia enters tonight off their first regulation loss of the season. This past Saturday the team gave up the lone goal of the third period to drop a 5-4 decision to the Guelph Storm … With 16 players who played in the OHL one season ago, Sarnia has just 1 goalie, 1 defenseman and 5 forwards on their roster who enter the 2010-11 season without Major Junior experience … Nail Yakupov (Nizhnekamsk, RUSSIA) was selected by the team in the 1st round of the CHL Import Draft while Nick Latta (Peiting, GERMANY) was selected in Round 2 … Sarnia, ON
native, and former Free Agent signing Tyler Peters leads the Sting offense with 3 goals and 6 assists while rookie forward Alex Galchenyuk has at least 1 point per game to start off the season … The Sting power play is 7th best in the OHL at 20.7% while their penalty kill is ranked 8th at 84.0%
